French multidisciplinary artist Arnaud Laffond, whose project Breathing was selected as the winning entry in the second Art+Science Climateurope2 open call, spent two weeks in Belgrade as part of an artistic residency organized by the Center for the Promotion of Science (CPN).

From March 18 to April 2, the CPN hosted Laffond as part of the Climateurope2 project residency whose project Breathing was selected as the winning entry in the second Climateurope2 open call Navigating Climate: The Art of Big Data. The goal of the residency was to enable collaboration between the artist and the scientific community, as well as to explore the local context and opportunities that would help shape the further development of the winning piece. Breathing will premiere at the Climateurope2 Festival in Belgrade, scheduled for September 29 to October 1, 2025.

During the two-week residency, which began with a workshop at the CPN, Laffond engaged in a vibrant exchange of ideas with local cultural and scientific figures. According to the artist, the residency helped him define the creative direction of his work and explore both the challenges and potential impact of the project on a broader audience. It also offered him deeper insight into the European dimension of the piece and the importance of data and resource sharing.

Laffond highlighted the significance of his collaboration with climatologist Professor Vladimir Đurđević, a scientist with whom he shares an ecological vision. “I am especially grateful to Professor Vladimir Đurđević, an expert in scientific data education, for his openness, support, and mentorship. I would also like to thank the Center for the Promotion of Science for providing space and helping me understand their role in making scientific content accessible to the public,” said Laffond. “The residency was not only filled with inspiring encounters, but also with many professional and personal discoveries.”
