In September 2025, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), under the umbrella of Climateurope2, hosted a two-day workshop in Barcelona and online titled "Climate Services for Health: Exploring Current Status and the Role of Standardisation". The event brought together 25 stakeholders from the climate, health, and humanitarian sectors globally to exchange perspectives on the current status of climate services for health and to reflect on the role of standardisation in supporting their effective use.
Why This Matters
Climate services for health integrate climate, environmental, and health data to support disease prevention, emergency response, and long-term adaptation. As demand for these services grows, greater clarity around roles, governance, and quality is increasingly important to ensure trust, usability, and sustained uptake.
About the joint statement
The workshop discussions highlighted shared experiences, challenges, and priorities across the climate services for health community. The joint statement below captures the collective reflections of participants and outlines agreed high-level principles and directions for strengthening the ecosystem. Further detail and specific recommendations are set out in the statement itself.
