Summary

Partners from CMCC, CPN and DKRZ are organizers of three sessions at EGU24, the European Geosciences Union General Assembly, which will take place as usual in Vienna in April 2024.
The European Geosciences Union is the leading organization for Earth, planetary and space science research in Europe. The mission of EGU is to foster fundamental geoscience research, alongside applied research that addresses key societal and environmental challenges.

The EGU General Assembly is a recurrent and important event for the scientific community, gathering more than 20.000 people for a week of presentations and discussions about science and its connections to society.

Two of the sessions organized by Climateurope2 partners focus on the intersection between science and society:

  • One is about “Climate narratives” as a tool to bridge the gap between science and the public, leveraging on multidisciplinary approaches which help to reach diverse audiences and promote effective engagement.
  • Another session is about “Disinformation”, as a key socio-cultural issue that undermines the understanding of complex topics, hence putting at risk the credibility of the scientific community, and affecting participation in the democratic process.

A third session will focus on the “Challenges in the Era of Open Science”, related to access, attribution, identity, and ethics in the research life cycle.

All the researchers dealing with these key topics of science communication in their projects or research are invited to submit an abstract for proposal by January 10, 2024, at 13:00 CET.

For any information on how to submit abstracts, please visit the How to submit an abstract section of the EGU24 website.
