Ana Pinter, a performing artist from the organization "Tri groša," is the creator of the winning project: M1L3NɅ, an interactive installation featuring a poetic text generator focused on climate discourse. The project will be showcased in a roadshow starting in June of summer 2024 in 5 different locations in Southeast Europe.

As part of our Climateurope2 Climatised Art+Science Service Open Call, we invited artists and scientists to submit breakthroughs and projects on climate services. This call encouraged applicants to explore the potential of climate data, research, and services in supporting climate change resilience. We offered one six-month residency between January and June 2024, which includes mentorship support, artistic research, and digital artwork production. Our distinguished jury, chaired by the Center for the Promotion of Science, selected an astonishing project: M1L3NɅ, an interactive installation featuring a poetic text generator whose discourse revolves around climate.

Meet our Art + Science winner

The creator of the winning project, artist Ana Pinter from the organization "Tri groša", has a background in the performing arts and focuses on enhancing the spectators' experience. Her work now involves participative and engaging formats that integrate digital technology and audio-visual expression with performative elements, resulting in highly interactive experiences. The M1L3NɅ installation invites visitors to engage with contemporary fortune-telling practices such as astrology and tarot reading. The curiosity about the future arises from a sense of general insecurity but is always accompanied by a sense of hope. The prophetic spirit of the installation refers to the climate narrative in this way. The generator will combine databases of poetic phrases created from prophetic discourses and climate data sets. M1L3NɅ stands as a testament to the transformative potential of collaborative efforts in exploring and communicating the complexities of our climate challenges.

The "prophet" consists of two parts, similar to a tarot reading, which present the history of the past and the history of the future. The firstforecast-telling process begins when visitors input a significant date (e.g., birthday), and M1L3NɅ provides a brief history of global climate events since that date. Transitioning to the second part, future-telling, occurs through a personal question posed to the visitor, determining the future climate forecast. The final interaction involves presenting a gift to the visitor - a "lucky card" printed in front of them. This pocket-sized card serves as an amulet containing a QR code image with a customized story told to the visitor, alongside a small digital library of relevant sources, links, and short texts about climate change.

Art, Science, Climate Services and Roadshow

As an integral part of Climateurope2, our community will experience a Roadshow starting in June of summer 2024. The Center for the Promotion of Science will kick off the promotion of climate services by showcasing the winning art and science proposal in 5 different locations in Southeast Europe. This innovative approach aims to expand the community of climate service users in this currently underrepresented European region. Through this initiative, we will promote evolutionary and transformative capacity building regarding standards and processes in climate services while driving local action. Stay tuned for more Roadshow information!
