Event report: National Meteorological and Hydrological Services Perspectives on the Standardisation of Climate Services in Europe

On 15 January 2026, an invitation-only online Climateurope2 workshop was hosted, entitled ‘Standardising Climate Services in Europe: A Dialogue with National Meteorological and Hydrological Services’ (NMHSs). The event was led by researchers from the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre with support from the World Meteorological Organization and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.

It convened representatives from NMHSs plus attendees from key partner organisations to examine opportunities and challenges for standardisation in public climate service provision. This report summarises the key insights and recommendations to support new standards to improve trust, comparability, and uptake of NMHS climate services.
