Standardisation Framework
Climateurope2 has developed a Standardisation Framework to support the development of a suite of standards for climate services in Europe currently under execution by CEN and CENELEC. It provides a structured approach to identify the information needed to assess minimum quality requirements, good practices, guidance and opportunities for standardisation, while also recognising those aspects of climate services that may be better addressed through other forms of governance. This section will progressively bring together the tools, guidance, analyses and other outputs developed through this work.
The Standardisation Framework supports a common understanding of the steps required to mature a suite of diverse standards for climate services. The Framework provides a decision tree to enable the identification of requirements and recommendations for Standards Bodies, helping to identify where standardisation can add value, where gaps remain, and which alternative approaches may be more appropriate. Through decision-making tools, commonly defined climate service components and supporting templates, the Framework assesses the maturity and suitability of different components for standardisation, identify existing gaps, and inform recommendations for improving the quality, saliency, credibility and legitimacy of climate services.
